For Diane
"Lines addressed to the institution of British English"
(a sonnet)
Well, colour my spiel
it's honoured I'll be
how knackered I feel
though you say I'm sleepy...
I laced up my plimsolls
and went to the theatre
But ran out of petrol
barely parked at the metre
When back at my flat
I ran to the loo
Once done, ate a buiscuit
and yawned over a banger or two
Though you say I'm more sleepy than I'd care to admit
It's knackered I am, and it's kip that I'll get!
