En route to: Fisherman's Wharf

The location: San Francisco, a bus

The time: around 4 pm, third day of the trip

The scene: Ten or so of us choir kids, plus chaperones, sit in the middle of a bus. Behind me and to the right is a rather seedy-looking, bearded, homeless man. The bus starts up, and so does he, in a rusty, off-key bass voice, "These BOOTS are made for WALKING/ and that's just what they'll DO/ one of these days these BOOTS are gonna walk right over YOU!... Keep walking boots, keep walking." He repeats this chorus, and then repeats it again, and again. We all look at each other and smirk a little.

And then, Andrew and Paul (two of our basses) join in. And then the rest of the guys all started singing along as well, including Izzy, a decided tenor who comes in a full octave above everyone else. And I'm laughing so hard... Then the man's stop was coming out, so he sang out "One more time boots, one more time!" One more time it is, but Izzy doesn't realize it, and comes in alone, very high.

"These BOOTS-"

Everyone dissolves into laughter, the man gets off at his stop, and we are singing that song and giggling for the rest of the night
