Hi all,

It's been six years since I started this blog.
A long time.
Too long, perhaps.
I've been thinking about it for a while, and have come to the conclusion to stop blogging for a while, and to stop altogether on this site.
...
Completely unrelated.
When God speaks to Job, he never addresses the charges Job has leveled against him.
And all Job does at the end is "repent in dust and ashes."
Even though Job hadn't blasphemed God in his sufferings.
He'd complained a lot, and questioned, and been bitter, but he didn't renounce God.
And still he repents.
Because he isn't the point anymore.
...
Nothing.
I am nothing.
(without God)
This is rather hard for me to think about seriously.
It's true, though,
and I give thanks to him for it
and for many other things.
...
It's been a swell six years, my friends.
I'll see you around,
Lauren

Ain't it a Pretty Night?

from Susannah by C. Floyd

Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl_Hs4PNT-c

I had the pleasure of hearing my friend Sarah, a lovely lyrical soprano, sing this for Opera Workshop in May. The first lines have been in my head since then, when I look at stars or sunsets.

Instead of packing last night, guess what I did?

“He loves the whisper of the pages and the way his fingertips catch on rough paper, the pour of the words up from the leaves, through the soft light, into his eyes, the mute voice in his ears”
-Keith Miller, The Book of Flying

...

The Great White North is calling my name (as is my to-do-before-leaving list and my empty bags).

Ciao.

it never rains but it pours

BECAUSE. I just saw my grades! And am quite pleased with them

AND. I just found out that I won another scholarship! And am super excited about it.

NOW. I'm going to walk to the library to pick up my holds, which happen to be Marry Me by St. Vincent, and a book of poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay. A strange coincidence, their similar names? Maybe, maybe not.

SO. No matter how the rest of the day goes, I'm calling it a good one. I hope yours is as well.

PLUS. Another quote well (I've been reading Emerson) and thoughts about public transit coming soon.

I am in the house alone

Trees are knocking 'gainst the window.
Floors are creaking, even when I move slow.
It's so cold and I know
I am in the house alone.

I'm huddled up in my blankets.
All the lights are on, and they won't let me rest
and I've tried to sleep but I can't.
The night grows darker yet.

TV's blaring from the doorway,
but it can't say what you needed me to say:
It's just a mistake. Why did I send you away?
When I- I should have begged you to stay.

Yo

I'm kicking the habit.
This is the longest my nails have been since I was about six.

----

Plus, I like Indonesian food.

---

Finals womp. But are almost done.

Peace out.

When I have fears that I may cease to be

WHEN I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has glean’d my teeming brain,
Before high piled books, in charact’ry,
Hold like rich garners the full-ripen’d grain;
When I behold, upon the night’s starr’d face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour!
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love!—then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till Love and Fame to nothingness do sink.

Quote Well #5

“Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.” Hosea 6:1-2

“And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment– to bring all things in heaven and earth together under one head, even Christ.”
Ephesians 1:9-10

Memorial

I spent this weekend in the sun, contemplating the end of school in a week and a half. On Friday, I went to Folklife for the first time. In spite of the clouds of smoke and crowds of inebriated & high people, I had a good time.

On Saturday, I drank a milkshake and constructed a 12-tone matrix for Webern's lied The Heart's Purple Eagle Flies by Night (No joke). And my sisters came to stay the night on Sunday, and we tooled around downtown on Monday.

I've been thinking about free will and fate, consumerism, creation, the goodness of God, and pain. Some of the thinking might come out soon. I hope it does. I am feeling the advent of a season of output.

And soon I'll be home, soon I'll be home
.
